This Portal has been designed to provide, upload, and share geospatial data regarding natural resource management in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. This includes global data on coral reefs, mangroves, forests, and other critical ecosystems. Users can interact with maps and data regarding their work or residential area,, and also upload or create their own datasets for comparison against global level data. The Portal is open source and open access, and built on the Geonode infrastructure (www.geonode.org)
Currently the custodian of the Portal, and all products under the Natural Resource Management Hub, is the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Papua New Guinea. All data is serviced through cloud computing services provided by UN International Computing Center (UN ICC) and Amazon Web Services. This ensures fast data transfers and constant availability.
This hub is a provincial prototype for a national level implementation of the Natural Resource Management Hub for Papua New Guinea. This Portal has been scaled up to address concerns across Papua New Guinea in the Biodiversity and Climate Geoportal: www.png-geoportal.
At the time of writing, all data in the Natural Resource Portal is from globally available, open datasets. These have been clipped and made more accessible for use by stakeholders in Bougainville. Whilst these datasets are public, data can be uploaded which is for certain users or private.
